Mr. Chinh told the ASEAN-Japan summit that economic, trade, and investment cooperation should be the foundation, momentum, and priority for bilateral cooperation. ASEAN will continue to create favorable conditions for Japanese businesses and investors and wants Japan to further facilitate ASEAN’s farm produce exports and diversify the supply chain, he said.
PM Chinh proposed further cooperation in the green economy, digital economy, and circular economy, calling on Japan to help ASEAN boost energy transition, effectively respond to climate change, develop strategic infrastructure, reinforce trade connectivity, and guarantee financial, energy, and food security.
At the ASEAN-US summit, PM Chinh welcomed the US’s strong commitments to ASEAN and suggested that the two sides prioritize trade and investment and post-pandemic sustainable recovery efforts.
He called on the US to help facilitate ASEAN’s exports to its market and assist the bloc in economic restructuring, development of the digital economy and e-commerce, medical resilience, epidemic response, climate change adaptation and green growth, including just energy transition.
The PM proposed that the US continue helping ASEAN with sustainable development in the Mekong sub-region, including strengthening vulnerable communities’ resilience in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta.
At the summit commemorating 45 years of ASEAN-Canada relations, PM Chinh voiced his support in principle for the upgrade of the ASEAN-Canada relations to a strategic partnership.
He said that priority should be given to bolstering economic, trade, and investment ties, including effectively carrying out the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and boosting the FTA negotiations.
PM Chinh called on Canadian enterprises to invest more in ASEAN and assist ASEAN firms to engage in global supply chains. He also asked Canada to continue creating conditions for goods, including farm produce, aquatic products, and fruits from Vietnam and other ASEAN countries to enter its market.
