PM calls for greater PCA support on territorial, economic, and trade issues

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam respects the role of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in helping countries peacefully resolve international disputes by arbitration and international conciliation, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said Sunday.

At a meeting in The Hague with Dr. Marcin Czepelak, the PCA’s Secretary General, Mr. Chinh said the presence of a PCA representative office in Hanoi is significant, demonstrating Vietnam's support for peace and a world order based on international law. He said Vietnam is ready to settle international disputes through international mediation, conciliation, and arbitration agencies in accordance with international law to ensure the harmony of interests of all parties.

Mr. Chinh asked the PCA to support Vietnam on territorial, economic, and trade issues.

Mr. Czepelak said an important PCA principle is also the orientation that Vietnam is pursuing, which is "not choosing sides, but choosing justice and right".

He applauded Vietnam's strong commitment to, and role in, promoting compliance with the UN Charter and international law.

He said he’ll work closely with relevant ministries and agencies of Vietnam, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to carry out training programs, and will recruit Vietnamese to work in its representative office in Vietnam.

During his official visit to the Netherlands, Prime Minister Chinh also worked with the Chairperson of the Dutch Federation of Employers, visited Amsterdam, and met the Mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema.

During his stay in Amsterdam, Prime Minister Chinh received some leading Dutch business leaders to promote investment and business cooperation with Vietnam.

While meeting representatives of the more than 25,000 Vietnamese people living in the Netherlands, Mr Chinh said he hopes his visit will help raise Vietnam-Netherlands ties to a new height.
