Speaking at the 15th East Asia Summit on Saturday, Prime Minister Phuc said with a population of 4.6 billion and a combined GDP of more than 51.6 trillion USD, the EAS has created a framework for countries to share their common interests and cooperate in various fields.

The EAS has also contributed to building a common approach to emerging issues, including the rule of law, sincere dialogues, and practical cooperation for peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

Prime Minister Phuc also shared other leaders’ view on the importance of building a culture of dialogue and cooperation for regional peace, security and development. He stressed in the complicated and changing world, the EAS needs to serve as a leading forum to promote dialogue and cooperation, build trust between countries, turn challenges into opportunities, thus helping shape an effective international multilateral structure to deal with challenges in the region and the world.

A number of documents were adopted at the EAS, including the Hanoi Declaration on the 15th anniversary of the EAS, the East Asia Summit Statement on sustainable maritime cooperation, the EAS Declaration on enhancing regional capability to prevent and cope with diseases, and EAS Declarations related to Women, Peace and Security.
