PM Directive boosts northern key economic region’s sustainable development

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has signed a Directive on measures to boost growth and sustainable development of the northern key economic region, which comprises of 7 cities and provinces. The region accounts  for 32% of national GDP, and its economy is the second largest in Vietnam.

Under the Directive, the Prime Minister asked ministries, sectors, and localities to unlock the region’s potential, especially in processing, manufacturing, high-tech agriculture, IT, tourism, and smart city building. He urged for amendments to the Law on Planning and the Law on Enterprises to attract more foreign investment, focusing on new, high-tech, and environmentally-friendly projects. The Directive asked municipal and provincial People’s Committees to encourage public-private partnership investment and mobilize other financial resources for infrastructure development in the region.
