(VOVworld)- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung is leading the Vietnamese delegation at the 9th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM9) in Vientiane, Laos. The 3-day meeting entitled “Friends for Peace, Partners for Prosperity”, focuses on the current economic and financial situation, global challenges, regional issues and cooperation between ASEM countries. Delegates will discuss strategic solutions to address global challenges and promote cultural and social cooperation for ASEM development. ASEM will mark its 4th expansion with the admission of Bangladesh, Norway and Switzerland, bringing the total number of member countries to 51. Delegates praised the role played by Laos in the preparation for the summit and its recent successful organization of the Asia Europe Parliamentarian and People’s Fora last month.
The Vietnamese delegation will share experience and contribute opinions to economic recovery efforts and maintaining peace, security and development in both continents.
On the sidelines of the event, an Asia Europe Business Forum opened on Sunday with 350 business representatives and leaders participating. Addressing the opening session, Laotian Prime Minister Thongsing Thamavong praised the forum’s initiative in strengthening economic cooperation between the two regions and the world. Delegates discussed growth prospect for both continents, environment and food security as well as opportunities to invest in Laos.
