The visit comes at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

The Vietnamese-Russian political relations have consistently been consolidated. Both countries have implemented a list of 2015 prioritized tasks to boost the bilateral ties and periodically held defense strategic dialogues.

Vietnam and Russia have tightly coordinated and supported each other in international forums. The two-way trade reached 2.2 billion USD last year and over 590 million USD in the first quarter of this year. Vietnam’s main export items to Russia include phone sets, garments, farm produce, and aquatic products while its imports are petroleum, steel, fertilizers, and machinery. Russia is the 17th biggest investor in Vietnam with 114 projects capitalized at 2 billion USD.

The trip to Russia will be Mr. Phuc's first foreign visit since he was appointed and aims to realize the 12th National Party Congress external policy to enhance Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership and make the bilateral relations more efficient.
