PM Pham Minh Chinh receives US Secretary of State Antony Blinken

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh who is in Washington DC for the ASEAN-US special summit met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday.

He congratulated the US for its timely response to the Covid-19 pandemic and its success in bringing life back to normal with the vivid example of the US hosting the ASEAN-US special summit.

He suggested the US continue to promote cooperation and support Vietnam in specific areas such as overcoming war consequences, coordinating in responding to epidemics and climate change, preventing subsidence in the Mekong Delta, and ensuring a sustainable and resilient supply chain.

Secretary Blinken agreed on the suggestion, saying that the US supported a strong, independent and prosperous Vietnam.

Both emphasized the importance of ensuring peace, freedom, security and safety of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, as well as settling disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
