PM Pham Minh Chinh welcomes US Secretary of State Antony Blinken

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Saturday evening received US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who came to offer condolences to the Government and people of Vietnam as well as the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong over the Party leader's passing.

PM Chinh expressed heartfelt gratitude to Secretary Blinken for visiting to pay respects and for President Biden’s condolences. He also conveyed his sincere thanks to President Biden, through Secretary Blinken, for the message of sympathy.

He highlighted that, thanks to the strategic vision and astute leadership of both General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Biden, Vietnam-US relations have entered a new and significant phase of development.

Secretary Blinken emphasized that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was instrumental in fostering the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and the United States, elevating it to a comprehensive strategic partnership that serves as a model of reconciliation and cooperation for the benefit of the peoples.

In their discussions on bilateral relations, both sides agreed to focus on enhancing cooperation in economic, trade, and investment and high technology and semiconductor industries. They also emphasized the importance of furthering collaboration in training high-quality human resources, considering it a key driver for the bilateral relationship. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh particularly highlighted the need for increased cooperation to address the aftermath of the war.

On international and regional issues of mutual concern, the Prime Minister welcomed the United States' commitment to comprehensive and responsible engagement with the Asia-Pacific and Indian ocean regions and its support for ASEAN's central role and ASEAN's and Vietnam's principled stance on the East Sea issue.
Secretary Blinken reiterated the United States' support for a strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam, encouraging its expanded international integration and increasing role in ASEAN, the region, and global efforts to address challenges.
