Addressing the 24th ASEAN-Japan Summit with leaders of ASEAN countries, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and ASEAN Secretary General Lim Jock Hoi on Wednesday, Prime Minister Chinh also suggested that Japan support ASEAN countries and Vietnam in developing strategic infrastructure, green growth, cooperation in digital transformation, digital economy, and post-COVID-19 recovery.

The Vietnamese Prime Minister welcomed Japan's support for ASEAN in maintaining stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea through dialogue and upholding international law.

He said that ASEAN and Japan need to cooperate to improve their capacity to respond to emergency medical situations in the future, continue to closely coordinate in recovering and stabilizing supply chains broken by COVID-19, create favorable conditions and provide maximum support for Japanese businesses and investors to stabilize production and business in the region and Vietnam.

At the Summit, the Japanese Prime Minister affirmed his commitment to support ASEAN in narrowing the development gap and developing the sub-regions to overcome the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and invest more resources to help ASEAN cope with climate change for green and sustainable development.

He reiterated his support for ASEAN's position on the East Sea, and welcomed ASEAN's role in promoting cooperation, dialogue, trust building in the region, fully implementing the Declaration of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), building an effective and efficient Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) in accordance with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Japan also affirmed its support for ASEAN's role in promoting dialogue and reconciliation, and assisting Myanmar in finding solutions to stability, Prime Minister Kishida Fumio said.
