(VOVworld)- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Saturday attended a conference to review the Prime Minister’s decision on the Master Development Plan of Phu Quoc island, Kien Giang province till 2010 and vision toward 2020. The Prime Minister asked Kien Giang province and Phu Quoc district to exert further efforts to develop Phu Quoc into a centrally administered special economic zone. He urged the local authorities to bring into full play local potential, especially in aqua culture and production, maritime economy, tourism, services and agriculture. He also stressed the importance of maintaining political stability, ensuring law and order and strengthening national defense.
Earlier, Primer Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and other high-ranking officials on Friday cut the ribbon to launch Vietnam Airlines’ Hanoi-Phu Quoc direct route. Phu Quoc international airport was the first one built with 100% investment capital of the Vietnam Airlines. The airport is capable of serving around 2.7 million passengers a year. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung addressed the inauguration ceremony. "Phu Quoc international airport will contribute to the socio economic development of Phu Quoc and Kien Giang and the establishment of Phu Quoc economic zone. This has been long awaited over the past years by central and local leaders. The airport will also contribute to defending national sovereignty over the sea, land and airspace in the southwestern region", said PM Dung.
