PM visits Canada, attends expanded G7 Summit
(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc left Hanoi on Thursday night for Quebec to attend the expanded Group of Seven (G7) Summit and visit Canada until Sunday at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The expanded G7 Summit will be held on Friday and Saturday with the participation of leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US, and several guests, including Vietnam. The meeting focuses on gender equality and women empowerment, investment in inclusive growth, preparations to adapt to jib placements in the future, cooperation to respond to climate change and protect oceans, and the building of a more peaceful and safer world. Vietnam and Canada established diplomatic ties in 1973, which were ungraded into a comprehensive partnership in 2017. Vietnam is currently Canada’s biggest trade partner in ASEAN with bilateral trade of nearly 5 billion USD in 2017. Canada ranks 14th among foreign investors in Vietnam with nearly 150 projects worth a total of 4 billion USD.
In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency on this occasion, Assistant Deputy Minister for Asia-Pacific at Global Affairs Canada Donald Bobiash praises Vietnam-Canada cooperative potentials. He said Vietnam is an important market for Canadian agricultural and aquatic products, and Canada imports a lot of outsourced products from Vietnam such as mobile phones and electronic equipment. He admired Vietnam’s economic growth, adding that the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) that Vietnam and Canada are members will open up trade opportunities for the two countries.
