PM wants to raise trade with Philippines to 10 billion USD

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Monday stressed the need to facilitate trade and increase Vietnam-Philippines two-way trade turnover to 10 billion USD soon, as he met with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on the sidelines of the 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Chinh and President Marcos applauded the good progress in the bilateral relationship, saying the two sides have much room and potential for cooperation in economy, trade, security-defense, agriculture, rice import and export, and renewable energy.

Emphasizing the importance 2025, when the two countries celebrate the 10th anniversary of their Strategic Partnership and look forward to the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties next year, Prime Minister Chinh suggested that high priority be given to the exchange of delegations at high and all levels, cooperation in food security and climate change response.

Discussing global and regional issues of mutual concern, the two leaders pledged to continue supporting each other at multilateral forums, actively work with ASEAN member countries and China to boost negotiations on a substantive, effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) in accordance with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
