The project is one of the 6 expressways that will connect many economic centres, international border gates and seaports and are expected to create major changes in the Mekong Delta.

PM Chinh said that some sections which will see high traffic density should be completed by 2025 and the entire Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang expressway should open to traffic by 2027.

The expressway begins in Soc Trang province, runs through Hau Giang province and Can Tho city, and ends in An Giang province. It is designed to be 32m wide and have six lanes, with its total cost of 1.9 billion USD sourced from the central and local budgets.
The expressway is the first horizontal axis one in the Mekong Delta, connecting the region with the national expressway system.

Mr. Chinh said the Government will pay great attention and work drastically to ensure the progress of this project and other infrastructure development projects.

The same day, PM Chinh visited the An Giang boarding school for ethnic minority children.
