Polish PM survives vote of confidence

(VOVworld) – With 237 votes in favor, 203 against, and no abstentions, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s coalition government has won a parliamentary vote of confidence amid a bugging scandal that has prompted calls for his centre-right government to resign.

Mr. Tusk had called for the vote after tapes recording some top Polish government officials’ conversations were leaked, stirring up a political storm in this central European country. In a speech to parliament earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Tusk said he won’t be affected by any moves except for this vote. Mr. Tusk rejected the opposition’s call for the government to resign and said the recordings of senior officials’ conversations are aimed at destabilizing the country.
