(VOVworld) - Pope Francis is the third Pope to visit Cuba, following Popes Benedict and Saint John Paul II. The Director of the Holy See’s Press Office, Father Federico Lombardi, said Pope Francis met privately with former Cuban president Fidel Castro on Sunday following a Mass before a crowd of thousands of Cubans at Revolutionary Square. The leaders discussed the world political situation and environmental problems. The Pope will also meet with current Cuban President Raul Castro and visit the towns of Holguin and Santiago de Cuba, known as the cradle of the Cuban revolution.
