President To Lam speaks at the 2023 National Press Awards, Hanoi, June 21, 2024.

He praised the press for upholding the role as a sharp weapon of the working class and the flag of the revolution, contributing significantly to the cause of national liberation and reunification in the past and national construction and defense at present.

Generations of journalists have joined hands to develop the Vietnamese journalism that is truly the voice of the Party and the people, a reliable bridge between the people and the Party and State, and between the Party, State, people and international friends over the past 99 years.

“The media should promote its role as an effective instrument of the Party in the ideological front. Focus should be placed on mobilizing the public to follow the Party's leadership, educating and guiding people to act according to socialist norms and ethics, and countering wrongful and hostile views. The media should  actively participate in the fight against corruption and negativity,” said President Lam.

This year's awards saw a record number of entries, with more than 1,900 submissions.
