President begins state visit to the Republic of Korea

(VOVWORLD) -President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived in Seoul on Sunday afternoon, beginning a state visit to the Republic of Korea until Tuesday at the invitation of President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk-yeol.

This is the first official visit to the Republic of Korea by President Phuc as Head of State, the first official visit by the President of Vietnam after 11 years, and also the highest-level visit by a leader of Vietnam since the Republic of Korea has a new President. President Nguyen Xuan Phuc is the first high-ranking foreign leader to visit Seoul at a state level since President Yoon Suk-yeol took power in May 2022.

The Republic of Korea welcoming the President of Vietnam with a state visit, the highest formality, has suggested how much the relations with Vietnam are important to Seoul.

As scheduled, President Yoon Suk-yeol will chair a welcome ceremony for President Phuc and his delegation at the Presidential Office before the two leaders hold talks and witness the signing of cooperation documents between the two countries.

During the visit, President Phuc will meet with Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo, and Deputy Prime Minister Choo Kyung-ho. He will attend the Vietnam-Korea Business Forum, work with the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and discuss with some of Korea's leading business leaders and financial institutions.

The President will also visit and meet the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, where he will welcome and announce Vietnam Day of Gwangju City and attend an art program to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea.
