(VOVworld) - Donald Trump took power as the 45th president of the United States on Friday and pledged to put 'America First' in his speech.

He repeated his campaign commitments to bring back American jobs, borders, wealth and dreams without mentioning any specific policies. President Trump promised to reinforce old alliances and form new ones, and unite the civilized world against radical Islamic terrorism. Former Presidents W.Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter attended the ceremony, along with thousands of Trump’s supporters.
After the inauguration, President Trump’s administration announced that the US will withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). A White House statement said that tough and fair agreements on trade could be used to grow the US economy and return millions of jobs to America. President Trump said his administration will focus on bilateral agreements.
The same day, the US Senate voted to confirm retired Marine General James Mattis as Defense Secretary.
