President of India appoints Narendra Modi PM-designate

(VOVWORLD) -India’s President Droupadi Murmu on Friday appointed Narendra Modi prime minister-designate, clearing the way for him to be sworn-in on Sunday as the head of a BJP-led NDA coalition.

After meeting the President, Mr. Modi talked to the media at the Presidential Palace, emphasizing that the Indian government in the past two terms under his leadership has achieved rapid growth and seen changes in every sector, including lifting 250 million Indians out of poverty.

Voicing optimism about the country's future, Mr. Modi said the next five years will be extremely favorable for India in the global context. He underlined the country's growing influence and the impacts India will have on the international stage.

Earlier, leaders in the NDA coalition led by the Indian People's Party (BJP) met President Murmu and presented a letter of support for Mr. Modi, who was elected NDA leader in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament.
