(VOVworld) – State President Truong Tan Sang on Thursday met with war veterans of Division 1 in Hanoi. The President appreciated their profound contributions and achievements during 9 years of the resistance war against the US.

President Truong Tan Sang asked war veterans to continue upholding the spirit of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, along with the Party and people, to overcome difficulties in national construction and protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The President expressed his hope that the veterans will continue to contribute to society and Party building work. He urged them to provide information to seek martyrs remains in the old battlefields and educate the young generation of national heroic tradition.
49 years ago the General Staff decided to establish Division 1 to join the resistance war in the Central Highlands and southern battlefields. The Division scored significant feat of arms during the Ho Chi Minh campaign to liberate the south and unite the nation.
