(VOVWORLD) -President Luong Cuong emphasized that increasing the number and improving the quality of lawyers is an urgent requirement to meet the legal service needs of people, businesses and society of Vietnam with a population of more than 100 million people and an open economy.

President Luong Cuong, Head of the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform, addressed a ceremony to celebrate the 80th Traditional Day of Vietnamese Lawyers (October 10) on Thursday in Hanoi.
He said lawyers must adhere to the principles of independence, honesty, respect for objective truth and absolutely comply with the Constitution and laws. In the face of any pressure, they must maintain professional ethics, best protect the legitimate rights and interests of citizens and organizations, and protect socialist legal system, and the legitimate interests of the State.
“The Vietnam Bar Federation needs to continue to promote its role and responsibility as a place to gather, unite, represent and protect the legitimate rights and interests of lawyers nationwide. Strengthen coordination with prosecution agencies, local authorities and relevant agencies in all activities, to truly become a solid bridge between the Party, the State, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the team of lawyers nationwide."
"It’s imperative to contribute to constantly improving the image and reputation of the profession, affirm the very important position and role of lawyers in society, and firmly consolidate the trust of the Party, the State and the People in the team of Vietnamese lawyers,” according to President Luong Cuong.
