President’s 2021 amnesty decision announced

(VOVWORLD) - More than 3,000 inmates will be released under the President’s 2021 amnesty decision announced at a press conference in Hanoi on Tuesday.

Beneficiaries include 21 holding foreign nationalities, nearly 500 ethnic minority people, and more than 300 religious followers, said Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quoc Hung.

Mr. Hung noted amnesty is regulated in Vietnam’s Constitution and was institutionalized in the 2018 Amnesty Law. Granting amnesty illustrates the humane tradition of the Vietnamese people, as well as the Party and State’s leniency policy towards prisoners who have shown good conduct, he said.

The decision will take effect on Wednesday.
