Minister Son told the media that the elevation of the Vietnam-Japan relationship to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World” during President Thuong’s visit reflects the high degree of political trust and maturity that marks Vietnam-Japan relations, and opens up a new period of more substantive and effective development cooperation in all fields.

During the visit, the two sides reached strong consensus on orientations and agreed on measures to strengthen exchanges and contacts at all levels, expand cooperation in economy, trade, investment, official development assistance (ODA), and labour, strengthen collaboration in national defence and security, and expand cooperation in new spheres like emission reduction, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition. The two sides signed five cooperation agreements covering energy transition, health care, space technology, cultural heritage, and the improvement of law enforcement at sea.

A highlight of the visit was the President’s speech to the National Diet of Japan, in which he delivered a message that an innovative, open, peace-loving Vietnam aspires to rapid development, stronger cooperation with Japan, and a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace,  diversification, multilateralisation, and being a friend, reliable partner, and responsible member of the international community.
