At a reception for US Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry in Hanoi on Monday Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed that the US continues to support Vietnam in negotiations on the establishment of a Just Energy Transition Partnership to help the country realize climate change adaptation goals. He also recommended the US continuing to demonstrate its strong commitment to supporting ASEAN’s centrality, the ASEAN-US Strategic Partnership, and the Mekong-US Partnership.

Vietnam is in need of technology transfer and financial assistance, in addition to developing human resources, perfecting institutions and sharing experiences. The PM proposed that development partners support and transfer renewable energy technology, to help Vietnam build and develop a renewable energy equipment manufacturing industry, and at the same time develop a map to accurately assess the potential of solar and wind power across all regions.

Special presidential envoy John Kerry said that the US would continue to strengthen cooperation and support developing countries, including Vietnam, in responding to climate change, especially in the development of clean energy, sustainable infrastructure, smart water and recourse management in the ecosystem. The US consistently attaches importance to the Comprehensive Partnership with Vietnam, he said.
