(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and leaders of other ASEAN member countries on Sunday attended the opening ceremony of 34th ASEAN Summit chaired by Thailand Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha in Bangkok.

In his opening speech, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha said over the past years of development, ASEAN has proved to be an important factor, helping its member countries when facing numerous challenges. At present, ASEAN is an area where member countries live in peace, free of conflicts and respect one another’s differences.
Under the theme of “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability”, Thailand wants to send a message of promoting a sustainable ASEAN in the areas of economic and human security, to promote more security initiatives and people exchanges.
On Sunday morning, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun-sen, Lao Prime Minister Thoongloun Sisoulith to discuss measures to promote cooperation in various areas between 3 countries, helping foster solidarity and prosperity of the ASEAN.
