Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit enhances Singapore-Vietnam relations

(VOVWORLD) - The coming Singapore visit by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will be a key platform for both countries to reaffirm their excellent ties, said Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan in his written interview with the Vietnam News Agency.

The Foreign Minister said there is a lot of room for closer collaboration between Singapore and Vietnam. The two countries need to accelerate cooperation in the digital economy and encompasses new areas such as cybersecurity, cross-border data flow, smart cities, innovation, artificial intelligence, and digital payments.

Singapore is keen to work with Vietnam in renewable energy, carbon credits, and sustainable infrastructure with the ambitious goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Mr. Balakrishnan said the Prime Minister’s visit will be a platform for both countries to advance their Strategic Partnership and create a more resilient and green future as well as a peaceful and prosperous Southeast Asia.

Straits Times Singapore on Tuesday covered Prime Minister Chinh’s visit, saying Singapore and Vietnam have strong economic ties, with bilateral trade growing steadily over the past decade to reach 31.3 billion USD in 2022.

Technical cooperation through the Singapore Cooperation Program is another key area of engagement. So far, nearly 21,000  Vietnamese officials have attended courses under the program on various development topics.
