Prime Minister requests speedy response to new COVID-19 outbreaks

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Thursday requested a speedy response to fresh COVID-19 outbreaks in Quang Ninh and Hai Duong province. 83 cases were confirmed  positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus on Thursday morning, ending 55-day streak without a local community case in Vietnam.

Chairing an emergency meeting of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, the Prime Minister said that aggressive measures have been taken to contain the epidemic from spreading.

“Prompt zoning, quarantining, contact tracing, and social distancing have been in place for the Chi Linh area in accordance with Directive 16. Van Don airport has been closed," said Mr. Phuc, adding "The National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control and the Ministry of Health should consider prolong the quarantine period for people entering and take extra precautions against virus mutation."

"Aggressive and effective anti-epidemic measures should be taken without causing public confusion and disruption in people's lives,” said the Prime Minister. 

On Thursday morning, laboratory specialists from Bach Mai Hospital, Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, University of Public Health and Hanoi University of Medicine arrived in Hai Duong to work on testing.

The Ministry of Health has instructed the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases to help Hai Duong province immediately establish a local treatment system, while severe cases can be transferred to the central hospitals for treatment.
