Prime Minister underscores Vietnam’s policy of peace, self-defense

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has said Vietnam pursues a defense policy of peace, self-defense and settling dispute by peaceful means on the basis of international law as stated in the newly-released 2019 Vietnam Defense White Paper.

He made the statement at a reception in Hanoi on Friday for leaders of the Defense Ministries of Brunei, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Russia, Singapore, and Thailand, who are in Vietnam to attend the 75th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army and the 30th All-People Defense Festival.

PM Phuc said that over the past 75 years, the Vietnam People’s Army has developed constantly and Vietnam has paid attention to strengthening defense ties with other countries on the basis of respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity for the ultimate goal of peace, independence, and development.

He called on countries to continue their support for Vietnam, who will assume the ASEAN Chair in 2020 and be a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2020 and 2021.
