The leaders continued their "substantive dialogue" on the Ukrainian situation and the establishment of long-term and legally binding security guarantees between Russia and the West, the Kremlin said.

They also discussed international issues as France is taking the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The two leaders agreed to hold more talks.

In late January, Putin and Macron talked on the phone about spiraling tensions between Russia and other Western countries.
