Quang Ngai: fishermen actively install fishing boat monitoring devices
(VOVWORLD) -More than 3350 fishing boats of 15 meters in length and above are required to install voyage monitoring devices in Quang Ngai province.
Authorities and fishing vessel owners have tried their best to fulfill the target set out by the Government Decree 26/2019 in completing the installation.
Fisherman Bui Nam is from An Vinh Commune, Ly Son island district: “As from April 1, all fishing boats should have monitoring devices to facilitate state management and prevent illegal fishing. This would enable us to benefit from state support in case of vessel malfunction or other mishaps during offshore fishing.”
The monitoring device installation a measure against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing among ship owners and fishermen as requested by the European Commission for “yellow card” removal on the Vietnamese fishing industry, as Mr Le Van Ninh from the Directorate of Fisheries puts it: “Traceability is a requirement for seafood exports to enter the EU market. Voyage monitoring devices help us certify and confirm our location of fishing to prevent illegal fishing in foreign waters.”
