Republic of Korean President-elect reiterates close relations with Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - Republic of Korea President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol on Wednesday affirmed the importance of relations with Vietnam and pledged to continue promoting Korean businesses’ investment in Vietnam.

During a phone conversation with President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Wednesday, Mr. Yoon promised favorable conditions for Vietnamese citizens to enter the Korea,  promote tourism cooperation and strengthen people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

He highly appreciated Vietnam's role in the ASEAN region and its contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development on the Korean Peninsula.

President Phuc congratulated Mr. Yoon on being elected as the 20th President of the Republic of Korea and applauded achievements the two countries have recorded in the past 30 years since the establishment of their diplomatic relations in 1992. On this occasion, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc cordially invited President Yoon Suk-yeol to visit Vietnam.

The two leaders agreed to continue maintaining delegation exchange and contacts at all levels and cooperate closely in celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations towards upgrading their relationship to a "comprehensive strategic partnership".

They shared the view of taking measures to achieve bilateral trade turnover of 100 billion USD by 2023 and 150 billion USD by 2030.

They stressed the need to continue working closely on regional and global issues and support Vietnam in promoting its role as coordinator of ASEAN-Republic of Korea relations for 2021-2024 term.
