Respect-paying services held for former President Le Duc Anh

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam continues two-day national mourning for former President General Le Duc Anh on Saturday.

National flags are flown at half-mast at offices and public places and recreational and entertainment activities are stopped. Vietnamese representative offices overseas have opened funeral books for former President Le Duc Anh. In Jakarta on Saturday, ASEAN Secretary General Lim Jock Hoi and ASEAN Deputy Secretary General Hoang Anh Tuan paid tribute to former President Le Duc Anh at the Vietnamese embassy in Indonesia. The ASEAN Secretary General praised former President Le Duc Anh for his strategic vision on Vietnam’s development and great contributions to peace and stability in the region. In New York on Friday, the Vietnamese Permanent Delegation at the UN held a ceremony to pay tribute to and opened funeral book for former President Le Duc Anh. Dozens of foreign delegations of various countries and UN agencies, international friends, and overseas Vietnamese paid tribute to the former President Le Duc Anh. They praised the former President’s great contributions to Vietnam’s development and international relations. Similar events were also held at the Vietnamese embassies in the US, France, Canada, and Bangladesh.

General Le Duc Anh served as President of Vietnam from September 1992 to December 1997. He passed away on April 22 at the age of 99.
