Responses to South Korea’s statement on ADIZ expansion
(VOVworld)- Japan expressed “cautiously acceptance” of South Korea’s decision to widen its Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). According to Yoshihide Suga, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary, Seoul informed Tokyo of its plan earlier. South Korea’s ADIZ is different from China’s new zone since it does not cover any Japanese territory water, or airspace. China, however, expressed its regret about South Korea’s decision to widen its ADIZ. Hong Lei, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Beijing will continue its contact with Seoul based on equality and mutual respect. The same day, South Korean President Park Geun-hye said widening the ADIZ is to protect national interests and national sovereignty.
