Restoration of Vietnam’s first Buddhist school begins

(VOVworld) – Quang Ninh province’s Buddhist Shangha began the restoration and refurbishing of Quynh Lam pagoda, Vietnam’s first Buddhist school in the town of Dong Trieu on Saturday. The pagoda was built during the reign of King Ly Than Tong in the early 12th century.

In the 17 and 18th century, it was Vietnam’s biggest Buddhist center. Most Venerable Thich Thanh Quyet, head of the Quang Ninh provincial Buddhist Shangha, said: “Quynh Lam pagoda is a special national relic site, which includes temples, shrines, and tombs. The restoration and refurbishing of the pagoda will be completed in the next 10-15 years.”
