Russia asks UN Security Council to meet on Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant

(VOVWORLD) - Russia has asked the UN Security Council to hold a meeting on Tuesday regarding Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station, Russia’s Deputy Ambassador to the UN Dmitry Polyanskiy said on Monday.

Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Leonid Slutsky said Russia has taken all necessary measures to prevent a tragedy at the nuclear site. He said he has heard more about countries supporting Kiev with arms than concerns about the situation at the nuclear plant, which could become another Chernobyl in the event of a terrorist act. He called on the UN and other international organizations to cooperate with Russia to ensure nuclear safety.

Russia said a session of the Council of the State Duma will be held on Thursday to discuss the safety of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
