Alexander Shilin, Chargé d’Affaires of the Russian Embassy in Indonesia, wrote on Monday that the report was influenced by those who want to use the MH17 catastrophe for political purposes. He said the Jakarta Post put the entire blame on Russia in the absence of any conclusions about the cause of the crash. Shilin insisted Russia was not behind the disaster, even if the plane was shot down by a Buk surface-to-air missile. Russian weapons are exported to many countries around the world, including Indonesia and Ukraine, but Russia has never delivered Buk missile systems to the opposition group in eastern Ukraine.
