This is the first time since World War II that Russia and France have worked together to deal with a common foe. President Putin on Tuesday ordered the Russian navy in the Mediterranean to establish contact with its French counterparts and work together "as allies" in the campaign against Islamic State in Syria. Putin said a French aircraft carrier would work with Moscow together as allies. The Presidential office said President Hollande would visit Washington and Moscow next week to discuss the fight against IS and the situation in Syria.
