Russia: Moscow, US 'almost' resolve dispute over diplomat compounds

(VOVWORLD) - The diplomatic spat between Russia and the US on the return of diplomatic asset is almost resolved, said Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov following a three-hour talk with Undersecretary of State Tom Shannon.

The US government has yet to comment.

Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it is absolutely unacceptable to place conditions on the return of diplomatic property. The Kremlin said it hoped the US would show the political wisdom and will to solve the diplomatic dispute.

The tensions began last December when Barack Obama, then US president, ordered the seizure of two Russian diplomatic compounds in New York and Maryland, and the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats over what he said was their involvement in hacking the 2016 US presidential election campaign.
