Russia says it will take measures to response to NATO expansion

(VOVworld) Moscow did not consider NATO a threat but it was concerned about NATO’s movement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday.

He said Russia has consistent attitude to NATO’s expansion and its so-called ‘partnership program’ by moving military infrastructure towards Russian borders. Sergei reaffirmed that one of main threats to Russia is NATO’s expansion to the East. He said Russia will use its sovereign right to response to NATO’s movements with measures adequate to the current risks to protect its security.

The announcement was made after NATO and US planned to put 4 battalions in the Eastern members, set up missile defense system in Eastern Europe, right up to Russia’s border, and carry out huge military exercise in Poland.
