Russia sets condition for restoring air safety agreement with US

(VOVworld) – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday that Moscow is ready to restore an agreement on the safety of flights over Syria if Washington's "unpredictable actions" do not repeat.

He said the US’s accusation of the Syrian army’s involvement in a chemical attack, which was used as a pretext for the April 7 US missile strikes on Sha'irat airfield in Syria, is groundless as no investigations have been carried out.

The US fired 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at the Syrian airfield last week in response to what it believes was a chemical weapons attack in Idlib province, that killed more than 80 people. Russia called the missile strike an unlawful act against a sovereign country and suspended an air safety agreement covering Syria.
