Its official website published the decree signed by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev which stated that the sanctions imposed on Russia by the US, including the suspension of cooperation in the nuclear energy sector, have urged Russia to take counter-measures. According to the decree, no American citizen is allowed to access Russia’s nuclear plants. Meanwhile, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said Moscow no longer trusts Washington in such a sensitive field. The decision also includes the termination of an agreement between Russian nuclear energy firm Rosatom and the US Department of Energy on feasibility studies on the conversion of Russian research reactors to low-enriched uranium. The announcement comes two days after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the suspension of a 2010 deal that called for reducing stockpiles of weapons-grade plutonium.
