Russia to maintain forces near Ukraine border
(VOVWORLD) - The Kremlin said on Wednesday that Russia will keep military forces near its border with Ukraine for as long as it sees fit.

The Russian President’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said last week that Russian troops deployed in its territory are under Moscow’s command and are not a threat to any country, including Ukraine. Peskov said Russia will strengthen measures to ensure its national security if NATO deploys forces to Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has urged NATO to speed up Ukraine's membership in the alliance, saying it is the only way to end fighting in the west of the country. Peskov said NATO membership for Ukraine will not resolve the conflict in Ukraine, only worsen the situation.
