Russia to veto new draft resolution on Syria

(VOVworld) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said on Tuesday that Moscow would veto a new UN draft resolution on sending files on the Syrian conflict to the International Criminal Court (ICC), if the files were set to vote at the UN Security Council, saying that such action is counter-productive.

Gatilov said that the draft resolution, proposed by France, was “politicised” to pave the way for the use of violence against Damacus. Russia recently vetoed a draft resolution, proposed by Australia, Jordan, and Luxembourg, on humanitarian aid for Syria and has vetoed 3 UN resolutions on Syria since the conflict in the country flared up in 2011.
