Russia, Turkey oppose US announcement on Golan Heights
(VOVWORLD) - Russia and Turkey on Friday opposed US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Moscow hopes this will not become an official decision of the US, adding that such appeal poses risks of serious instabilities in the Middle East and may ruin all efforts seeking for a peaceful solution in the region.
The same day, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned that "Trump's statement about the Golan Heights brings the region to the edge of a new crisis." "We will never allow the occupation of Golan Heights to be made legitimate," said Erdogan while addressing an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) executive committee in Istanbul on Friday.
