(VOVworld) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a telephone talk with US Secretary of State John Kerry on Monday to discuss the current situation in Syria.

They agreed to continue to seek ways to resolve the Aleppo crisis. According to a joint statement, Lavrov said the US should fulfill its obligation to distinguish moderate opposition groups from “terrorists” in Syria.
The same day, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem will visit Moscow on October 28.
Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Russia will respond to any new US sanctions to protest its actions. Earlier, John Kerry said the US might tighten its sanctions against Russia because of its actions in Syria.
