The Russian Security Council stressed the meeting with Mr. John Bolton is "constructive and business-like manner" and said Moscow is ready to work together with the United States to salvage the agreement.
The council also said the collapse of the treaty would deal a serious blow to the international legal foundation of non-proliferation and arms control. The statement was made following Bolton’s talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrovand Russian Security Council chief Nikolai Patrushev on the Treaty.
Patrushev and Bolton also discussed issues related to a possible five year extension of the New START arms control treaty, which expires in 2021. Bolton and Lavrov also discussed the common fight against terrorism and maintaining strategic stability.
