(VOVWORLD) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that Russia has withdrawn more than 1,100 soldiers and scores of helicopters and warplanes from Syria.

Putin told a ceremony in the Kremlin that Russia began reducing its military force in Syria after his visit to Hmeimim base last December.
In 2015 Russia began military operations in Syria to help President Bashar al-Assad survive a 7-year civil war that killed hundreds of thousands people.
