The Ria Novosti news agency reported that Vladimir Putin, former president and current prime minister, has received the official nomination from his United Russia party. The other confirmed candidates are Vladimir Zhirinovsky of the rightwing LDPR party, and Communist party leader Gennady Zyuganov.
