(VOVWORLD) - The upcoming trilateral summit between the leaders of South Korea, Japan and the United States will take their countries' three-way cooperation to a new level, a White House official said Wednesday.

John Kirby, National Security Council (NSC) coordinator for strategic communications, said the leaders will also focus on ways to institutionalize such cooperation among their countries.
The summit will include an ambitious set of initiatives to lock in progress between the allies, White House Indo-Pacific coordinator Kurt Campbell said on Wednesday, adding that the US relationship with Japan and South Korea would be a defining trilateral relationship for the 21st century.
Senior US administration officials said earlier that the summit will launch joint initiatives on technology and defense, amid mounting shared concerns about China and North Korea.
