Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) nominee Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Monday was elected Speaker of the National Assembly with 258 votes of the 342-member house. Candidate Shehryar Afridi from Pakistan Tehreeek-e-Insaaf (PTI) secured 31 votes and 23 votes were given to Iqbal Qadri from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). Outgoing Speaker Fehmida Mirza extended her congratulation to her successor and administered the oath to him after the result had been announced.
